University of Pittsburgh Medical Center

The University of Pittsburgh Department of Neurological Surgery is nationally and internationally recognized for innovative research efforts, high-quality training programs, and expert patient care. Clinical care takes place chiefly within the framework of the Department’s centers of excellence, including the UPMC Minimally Invasive Brain Surgery.

UPMC Minimally Invasive Brain Surgery

At UPMC, neurosurgeons treat a wide range of brain and spinal conditions, using newer techniques that generally carry a lower risk of disfigurement and disability than conventional "open" surgical procedures. As an added benefit, post-operative recovery is often more rapid following minimally invasive procedures than is recovery from traditional open surgery.

Endoscopic Endonasal Surgery of the Cranial Base and Pituitary Fossa Course

This course is co-directed by Drs. Carl Snyderman and Paul Gardner and is held four times throughout the year at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. In addition to Drs. Snyderman and Gardner, invited guest faculty present the technical aspects of this operation along with the risks, benefits and outcomes. This course is designed for neurosurgeons, otolaryngologists-head and neck surgeons and minimally invasive skull base surgeons who are interested in the most recent developments in endoscopic surgery of the cranial base and pituitary fossa. The course features a live surgical demonstration, didactic lectures and hands-on cadaver dissection.
